First of all I’d like to introduce myself – I’m Jack and I have been chosen as New Bridge’s newest head boy. I would like to thank Mr Southerington and Mrs Lamb for the opportunity and also Matthew for the advice – good luck to him at Medtia. It’s an honour to write a blog and be Head Boy and I will be glad to work with Kara in as her role as Head Girl.
On Monday and Tuesday I’m not present at the main school, I will be at Medtia for core lessons so you’ll be hearing a bit from the Head Girl about what goes on at school those first two days. Wednesday is seen as Activ8’s favourite day of the week which starts with Duke of Edinburgh. We went up to Saddleworth moors for a bit of map reading last week which turned into a mass snowball fight! It was great to see the boys displaying good team work as well the ability to laugh at each other. It was great to watch Tony and Charlie help Daniel who lost his shoe in mud! They gave him a piggyback all the way back to the bus. The afternoon got even better with a rugby league session with Mr Greenway at Hollinwood Cricket Club on a very muddy pitch! It was fantastic to see the boys’ performance and team spirit of the game, it was also great to see a lot of tackling from the younger boys to the older boys.
On Thursday we had a special visit from our Sky Sports mentor and Olympic judo bronze medallist Sophie Cox to teach the boys a bit of judo..
We learned basic takedowns, handling and grappling and basic defence. It was very impressive to see her throw Mr Greenway and the placement University students over her shoulder..
At the end it was great to hear her experiences in her career with injuries etc. I will put the video of ‘a week in the life of Activ8’ at the end of this blog to show you more of our experiences this week.
That’s all this week at New Bridge. I would like to finish the blog by thanking our placement students Nathan and Andrew for being with us for four weeks and wish them good luck in the future in sport and I hope they achieve their goals.
I hope you all enjoy your week and I’ll be hoping Pep’s City earn another 3 points and get back to the top of the league,
Jack
