This week two parts of the New Bridge Group came together when Spring Brook Key Stage 4 went to visit Medtia Square. Year 10 and Year 11 were given the opportunity to see our outstanding pathways provision as well as a quick glance into Future Finders and Horizons. For me personally, it was brilliant to see how many of the students I have taught at New Bridge have matured into young people who have clear destinations and goals for their future..

We were reliably informed by Mr Wood that today was a relatively quiet day at Medtia as many of the students were out at placements throughout Oldham. Despite this, both Spring Brook staff and students were blown away by the technology and space given to teaching areas. Medtia has a real ‘college’ feel and students are very much responsible for their learning and outcomes. This is something we hope to achieve in the Springboard Project – that our young people are given opportunities within a workplace environment in a variety of different roles. Our staff will support and develop these opportunities and links so that all our young people have clearly defined pathways and destinations into employment or the community.

To finish our tour we were taken to the Atruim Café and saw some of the New Bridge young people working in a variety of different roles which again was a delight to see. Our students really enjoyed everything the café has on offer (especially the cake!) and the atmosphere of the spacious atrium in a real working environment..

Today’s trip has sparked a lot of ‘food for thought’ (and not just about cake) and our next Spring Brook outing will involve the Year 9 students as they have a look at their options as they move into Year 10 and 11. As we move towards half term and the next part of the Spring term, we have lots of things to look forward to and hope the students and staff will have a ‘voice’ about how we are going to move forward to the next phase of planning for our school. Exciting stuff !!!!
