Mr Bright brings us his report on an action packed day at Medtia Square..
Today’s BBC School Report News Day saw the young people of the New Bridge Group fully involved……and what a day we had! Pupils came together from New Bridge School, Hollinwood Academy, Spring Brook Academy and Medtia Square to learn all about how the news is reported. The young people have demonstrated a real understanding of how the news is gathered, written and presented..
Pupils started at 9am researching stories of interest to them and pulling the key facts from each story. They then attended an editorial meeting to choose the 6 stories they would run with..
Pupils then had first-hand experience in interviewing, recording and writing the news. They learned how open questioning allows for more interesting responses and how the 5 W’s (What, When, Who, Where and Why) are important in every story..
Some of the pupils then presented their news stories ‘live-to-air’ in front of a green screen, just like at the BBC..
The young people have had a great day, working as a team and developing their social interaction skills whilst developing a deeper understanding of how news is constructed. The day has been challenging at times as the pupils gained an appreciation of the pressures when working to a deadline. However, they have really enjoyed being part of this experience and I am extremely proud of every one of them..
I would like to thank all the staff who have helped make today possible. Please take a look at our finished news broadcast..
The pupils have been in charge of every shot recorded, every word written and spoken, every technical feature used and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a joy to watch – well done, everyone!
Same time next year!
