I have to start my blog with an apology for missing last week’s entry. My reason – and it’s a really good one – is that we were just so busy with everything that’s been going on here at Spring Brook! Last week finished with a brilliant Art trip to Formby Beach. Although the day started quite dull and grey, the scenery at the beach provided us with some amazing backdrops for Jordan’s art work..

For his main piece Jordan has chosen to create a den. The dunes at Formby look almost ‘moon’ like, with huge craters of stand (which Lewis and Declan managed to roll down)..

The beach also seemed the perfect place to strike a ‘Titanic’ pose..

We managed to create some pictures in the sand and I particularly love the ‘Springboard 2017 ‘ heart drawn by Chloe, Corey and Miss Roberts..

This is definitely one to keep for our new building and I will be asking the New Bridge Printers to get this onto canvas for the opening of the Project. Well done to Miss Tokelove for choosing such a fantastic location!

Last Thursday was also incredibly busy as Springboard became part of the BBC News report which you can read more about here. Our representative Mathew did a brilliant job in feeding back the news of the day and it was really good to see him working with lots of other young people from across the New Bridge Group. Well done, Matt!

Aside from normal PE lessons this week, Matthew has been working on his Sports Leadership skills. He has travelled down to Spring Brook lower school to help teach Mr Hopkins’ parkour lessons to Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Matthew demonstrated all of the necessary moves and performed all the warm up activities for each PE lesson..

Matthew has also been joining in rugby lessons with the Activ8 Sports Pathway group at New Bridge. He has been fitting in well and has already managed to drum up a healthy rivalry with head boy Jack!!!

It’s so good to see us all working together and our young people beginning to learn and understand what happens in other parts of the New Bridge Group.

Finally, to bring us up to date with our blog, Friday saw the celebration of Comic Relief. At the Dean Street site this consisted of:

  • Non uniform, with Miss Daniels really dressing up for the part..

  • A bake sale with some great cakes from Miss Ebenezer and Miss Rodgers (and Wayne!)
  • Plus, the highlight of our site, car washing!!!!!

Well done to everyone who participated and although we don’t yet have the final figure we raised, all our young people made a really positive contribution towards a great cause.

As we move towards Easter there are so many things to celebrate and we are looking forward to the Summer term which will be packed with lots of exciting experiences and challenges.

Spring has really sprung at Dean Street!

Have a good weekend,

Mrs Tootill
