Tuesday saw our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s group head off to the Welsh Mountains for their practice expedition..
Over 2 days the group hiked and explored Cwm Eigiau and Cwm Llwyd in the the Carneddau Mountains. The route was a mixture of pleasant paths and tracks and some rough hill walking. The group were self-sufficient, carrying enough equipment to complete the journey safely..
The weather conditions varied from sunny and pleasant to cold with wintry showers..
Home was a wild camp on the shore of LLyn Newydd where the squally weather initiated an early retreat to the tents..
Day 2 began as the tents warmed and some of the ice had melted. The group did well helping and supporting each other along the way..
Entertainment was provided by Connor and his disappearing shoe..
..and bog snorkelling act..
It was a great accomplishment and a fabulous effort by all involved.
Once again, we are very grateful to Mr Taylor, Mr Hollinworth and Mr Lawrence for making the expedition possible – hopefully the weather will be warmer for the qualifying expedition in June!
