The last blog of this half term is written with a heavy heart after the past week’s events. On Thursday Dean Street observed the one minute silence along with Manchester and the rest of the country.

Our Spring Brook family has been devastated by the tragic events on Monday night. As a mark of respect, pupils from Key Stage 3 and 4 released balloons on the back fields to remember the families and carers of the injured and those who lost their lives.

Many of our young people have visited the Arena for sporting and musical events. This week the staff at Dean Street have talked to pupils around how to deal with grieving and loss. Our young people have talked and we have listened.

As we let the balloons go, we watched them fly off in the wind and the pupils and staff quietly reflected on the week gone by.

Despite these tragic events, our very own Miss Rodgers will be running the Manchester 10k this Sunday. Miss Rodgers has trained really hard for this gruelling run (I’ve done it myself a couple of times and it’s tough, especially when the sun is shining) and we wish her the best of luck from everyone at Dean Street..

Declan has been accessing a work placement at Grains Bar in Delph which will continue throughout the Summer term. The Little Owl Farm at Strinesdale specialises in animal care as well as general farming and we will have some wonderful pictures to share with you next time that show just how much Declan is enjoying his placement there. These include some that we are not sure the goats entirely appreciated though, we will let you judge for yourselves just how keen they were to be included in Mr Allman and Declan’s selfies….

To finish this half term, we hope that all our young people have a safe holiday and we will be welcoming them back for the final part of the year on Monday 5th June.

A big ‘thank you’ also needs to go to the Dean Street staff who have ensured that our young people have entered into their exams stress-free and happy.

Enjoy your break,

Mrs Tootill
Head of Springboard Project
