Our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s group have now successfully completed their qualifying expedition. Mr Taylor, our DofE manager, accompanied our intrepid young people on their adventure..
Over 2 days, 19 pupils walked and explored some of the caves and valleys of the Dovedale valley in the White Peak, Staffordshire..
Wednesday saw the group exploring sections of the River Dove between Beresford Dale and Dovedale..
On Thursday the young people followed the journey from Weags Bridge to Hulme End with the chance for some exploration of the imposing Thor’s Cave..
Each group carried equipment appropriate to them to complete the journey safely and in some comfort. The weather was hot and threatened thunderstorms on day 2 but instead provided clear skies and sweltering sun..
Camping was at Barracks Farm which was unusually busy, having a bit of a festival feel..
Given the conditions, the expedition was a great accomplishment and a fabulous effort by all involved..
Well done, everyone!! We are extremely proud of how hard the group have worked and we are very grateful to Mr Taylor and our wonderful staff for making the expedition possible – you’ll be pleased to hear that the tents have all now been aired and carefully repacked ready for our Silver group to tackle their 3 day expedition next week..
We have lots more pictures of the expedition to share, please visit our Facebook page here to view the full album!
