Welcome back everyone to the new academic year. The Summer has been spent planning some exciting changes to Dean Street. We have started by moving Key Stage 4 to the back end of the Dean Street site. Mr Pidlyskyj and Mr Daly have moved rooms and we have rehoused the ICT into what was the English room. Year 10 seem to be really happy with these changes and have settled really well back into the timetable, including their Duke of Edinburgh’s work (but more about this later)..

Mrs Roberts and Mr Hopkins have moved with Year 11 into the old Maths room. With the help of Corey this room has been completely transformed to a teaching base for Key Stage 4. Miss Caines and Miss Roberts have also moved the Key Stage 4 base to Miss Brown’s old class room. The old Year 7 base has been converted into a common room for Key Stage 4. This is the area we are hoping to develop and at present Key Stage 4 are enjoying having some ‘chillin’ time’. We have been also joined by a new member of staff, Mr Riding, who previously worked at the Learning Centre and now joins the Dean Street squad. It’s been a real summer of change!!

We have continued to develop our timetable and curriculum towards a vocational route ready for the new Springboard Project. We have been working on the Project over the Summer (I’ve even been sending information to Mrs Righini all the way from sunny Tenerife) and I’m delighted to say that we are now back on track. This year is going to be one busy year!!!

Our Key Stage 4 outdoor group are continuing to enjoying learning in the outdoor environment and this week went up to the Snake Pass. It is so good to see all the young people learning in such a beautiful part of the Peak District. The Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme encompasses so much of our curriculum – environmental studies, Geography and Science – with the added benefits of exercise and being out in the fresh air..

So here we go again into the new year – I can’t believe I have nearly been at Dean Street for 12 months! We have so much to look forward to, kicking off with our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September.

Here’s to the new school year and all it brings….
