I can’t believe that we have reached our last week of this half term – that means we are half way through the school year already! Lots of news and photos to share with you this week from the children, who have been working so hard learning about all things related to Oceans in Key Stage 2 and The Farm in Key Stage 1.

We will start off with Class 4 where Mrs Makin has been delighted with the progress the children are making. Their work has centred around the story called Farmyard Hullabaloo which they have loved reading. This has led on to lots of work around rhyming words..

In numeracy they have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties – thinking about how many edges and corners shapes have and whether they have curved or straight edges..

Class 4 have made model farms and some lovely sheep! Come and have a look at them outside their classroom..

I had a lovely visit from Lucy too who was so proud that she could read her book! Here she is reading it to me, albeit it a bit distracted by the camera! We are very proud of her..

Key Stage 2 have been learning about the Oceans and Class 1 have been concentrating on Plastic Pollution. We have had some fascinating conversations in assembly about when our pupils are parents and whether their children will be able to experience the seaside in the same way that we’ve been able to. The children have been really shocked by the amount of plastic in the sea and how this is then digested by fish and sea birds. They visited St Anne’s beach to do their bit to clean up our coastline and collected litter that had either been left or blown on to the beach..

They’ve also written to Michael Gove, Secretary for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, to ask what he intends to do about the amount of plastic used in food packaging that can’t be re-cycled. We await his reply with interest!

Class 3 visited the Sea Life Centre as part of their topic about the Oceans and had a very exciting time there. They saw sharks, turtles and clown fish (it was the actual Nemo they told me!) and were able to touch the starfish and feel the shrimps nibbling the skin on their fingers..

I was lucky enough to accompany Class 2 into their PE lesson last week where they were doing Parkour with Mr Hopkins. They were amazing! They have been learning how to do a variety of jumps and rolls that means they can clear the equipment as safely and quickly as possible. At times the boys were a bit apprehensive about whether they could clear certain gaps, but they all had a go and were really encouraging with one another. Well done Class 2..

It has been lovely to welcome back Mr Bloska to school as our Music Teacher. The children are all learning to play the Ukulele and despite finding this difficult, they have persevered. It’s hard when they want to run before they can walk, but they are starting to see that getting the basics in place first is essential. Here are some photos of Class 1 & 2 having a go!

It’s our Good Work Assembly this Thursday morning at 10.15 so we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there. Don’t forget that school closes for the half-term break on Thursday evening and the children are not in school on Friday.
