I would like to start this week’s blog by thanking the staff team for all their hard work, the support they give to our children really is second to none. They help our children cope with the difficulties they face in their daily lives, making sure they feel safe at school and are able to learn.
It has also been busy as ever with all the classes making good progress. Class 2 have had a very settled week with all the boys working hard as Mr Cruz reports..
In art we have been using different techniques to draw birds. We used tracing to get the outline and proportion correct of the images, then we used a copying technique which was more complex in copying the image..
The boys were incredibly proud of their results and how realistic they looked. I had a queue at the door! It’s fantastic to see them grow like this. They have gone from a group who really disliked art to actually embracing learning new techniques. Well done, Class 2.
Class 5 were fortunate to be invited by a New Bridge colleague to take part in an initiative at the Gallery Oldham. They attended a special research workshop set up by our Creative Arts team in partnership with the Gallery and the SLiCE (Specialist Leaders in Cultural Education) programme from Curious Minds that used inventive ways to think about the town they live in and its history. All of the pupils really enjoyed their session and are looking forward to the follow up one in June. It was actually really lovely too to hear the pupils tell me about other things that they saw there. The Gallery work really hard to provide a wide range of displays and activities that will appeal to all age groups – drop in when you’re next in the area!
Class 3 have looked forward to their trip out today the whole week. They have been learning about Life Cycles of Animals and their visit has involved learning about butterflies and the process that they go through. They arrived back at school too late for me to be able to get the photographs into here but I promise to share them with you next week.
Talking about Life Cycles, we had some old friends come back to visit today…. our chicks! They have been living with Mrs Pulman who reports that they are getting quite bolshy and establishing a ‘pecking’ order. Their feathers are coming along nicely and they have enjoyed being petted by the children in school today. We used some tables to make a little pen for them so that they had room to run around and covered the floor in newspaper in case they left us some presents…..they left lots!! Once they start to lay eggs, Mrs Pulman will be able to fetch some into school so that we can bake with them – Life Cycles in action!
We have welcomed two new pupils this week, Jayden and Taylor, and another young person, Bailey, will be joining us next week. We are taking part in the water-polo competitions next week so if you are a parent of a Year 3 or Year 4 child who is taking part, you will have had a letter informing you of the details. Please come along and watch if you can, the children always try their hardest in these events.
Don’t forget it’s a Bank Holiday weekend so we won’t be in on Monday. We will see everybody on Tuesday morning – have a great few days!
