Two big events in the school calendar took place this week, both of them highlights of the year for all involved. The first was our Sports Awards Presentation Evening on Thursday, a celebration of our pupils’ sporting achievements throughout the year with Aaron Lilley, professional cricketer for Lancashire County Cricket Club, on hand to present our awards. Sporting activity plays an important role in helping our pupils to develop skills and qualities such as communication and teamwork, confidence and self-discipline, concentration and perseverance. To see so many of our young people demonstrating these qualities and achieving success in sport was inspiring, as they not only underpin success in sport but success in life. Well done again, to every one of our pupils who won an award. Mrs Tootill tells us more..
I felt really honoured to be asked on Thursday night to be part of the New Bridge Sports Awards. It was fantastic to see so many young people from all parts of our Group celebrate their sporting achievements. It was also fantastic to be part of the event which showcased a massive range of sporting achievements, from Athletics To Yoga..
It was also my honour to introduce the Eric Fitzsimons Award. Mrs Fitzsimons spoke around resilience and how this had always been a part of her husband, Eric’s life, from his army career to his sporting career, before sharing with us a poem that Eric’s Grandma had given him as a child..
Mrs Fitzsimons then presented the Eric Fitzsimons Award for Resilience to Daniel..
The Sports Personality of the Year went to Lewis..
Well done to PE team for organising the event and to admin team for making the evening run so smoothly.
The second big event was Friday’s Prom for our Year 11 and Year 14 leavers, and there was no shortage of wow factor when it came to sharp suits and elegant ball gowns. To see our young people all dressed up and so excited put a huge smile on our faces, they all looked amazing. Equally impressive was the range of vehicles our young people turned up. We had Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes, as well as stretch limos, Hummers and even a VW Camper Van and an off-road buggy – and Mr Meadows as a personal chauffeur..
It was something of a ceremony watching each one make a grand entrance in front of the crowd and red carpet before each leaver stepped out to reveal their dazzling suit or gown. The fun and excitement continued into the night with a busy dance floor and opportunities for photos to remember this special occasion..
A special thank you to one of our parents, Mr Schiavo, who very kindly brought along his ice cream van and gave every one of our leavers a free ice cream!
You can find more pictures in our Facebook album here. Tuesday saw us taking part in a wonderful problem solving day of Maths quite unlike our normal lessons as you will discover here.
On Thursday we welcomed back our final DofE group from their 3 day expedition. They coped with the hot weather and have now successfully completed their Silver Awards, a fantastic achievement!! Find out how they got on in Mr Taylor’s report here.
On Thursday our Year 14 students are out on their leavers trip and we hope they have a lovely time. Back at the ranch, those left behind will be enjoying our very own Woodstock garden party -pictures definitely to follow! Friday sees our end of year activities & inter year group competitions – always a great way to finish a wonderful year.
So with the summer holiday fast approaching, we’ve still got a lot to fit in next week with Sports Day, Super Learning Day, Year 11 and 14 Leavers’ Presentations, Rewards Morning and, we believe, even a bit of karaoke?! See you again next week.
Have a good week,
Gavin and Dawn
