Excitement is building at Spring Brook as our iPad adventure gets closer. Mr Bright paid us a visit this week to make some plans and he took the opportunity to meet with Abu again, who is going to be one of our pupil champions. This will involve him having some training that he can then pass on to other pupils. He will also be able to support adults in school. Abu is taking his role very seriously and suggested having a parents session too where he could share his knowledge – what a fantastic idea Abu, you’re going to be very busy!

On these video clips you will see Mr Bright explaining something called augmented reality. This will enable the children to get really engaged with their learning by using apps that make it seem like another world! One shows Abu learning about the eye by seeing a 3D revolving model in front of him. He could twist and turn it to see it from every angle – it was so clever!

The other clips are from a WWII app showing the D-Day landings. Abu could experience this by being a paratrooper, being in a tank or by coming in by ship. The animation showed how the allies approached from different parts of the beach and Abu could move around the room to make the experience feel even more real. He was completely engrossed in it. I can’t wait to learn more and be able to invite you all in to learn with us.

On Thursday all of our children go swimming at Chadderton Pool. We have a great teacher in Amanda and she involves us in all of the competitions the swimming service put on. We believe swimming is a vital skill for children and are proud to say we have never had anyone leave us who cannot swim well.

Our youngest pupils have started swimming too this year and they are LOVING it – Lucy counts sleeps to swimming every week! Here are a selection of photos from this week..

You can see them in action, including Kobi and Calvin doing their “somersaults” in the water..

Also this week, we were thrilled to be invited by our friends at Lyndhurst to watch a visiting theatre company in a production called Adrift (you can click here to visit their website)

We joined their pupils and some from Delph primary to watch this clever show. It follows two children on their journey across the sea as refugees and tells the story through their eyes. It really was very moving and thought provoking. The Spring Brook children who attended are going to present an assembly to the rest of our children to share what they learned.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came to support our coffee morning in aid of Macmillan. We can share our final sum with you now which was just short of £100! Well done everyone for helping to make a difference.

See you all soon,

Miss Thomason
