The one thing we can guarantee at Spring Brook is that we never stand still. Demand for places at school continues to grow meaning that after our Easter break, we will be welcoming new children to our additional Key Stage 1 class. It will be lovely to have more little ones around the school – they are always guaranteed to surprise and delight us in equal measures! More Year 6 pupils have joined us recently and they have settled in superbly.
The last couple of weeks have been as busy as ever. We have been joined by Mr Arnold at the primary site who is going to be supporting us with the review of our provision. He has quickly got to know the children and has been busy learning about what our children need to best equip them for the future.
Last week we celebrated World Book Day. The children and staff made a great effort with their costumes and completed lots of learning based around their favourite stories.
This week has seen us adorned with red noses to learn about the work of Comic Relief and the vast amount of charities that they support. Class 4 spent the afternoon making their own ‘red nose’ buns and cakes – they look delicious don’t they?
Mrs Elliott’s and Miss Foxcroft’s classes were invited to a Stone Age themed outdoor experience on Monday of this week. This was run by Nature Ed, who are based at Hollingworth Lake (click here for details). They all had a great time, investigating Stone Age artefacts, foraging, making their own stone axes and learning to light campfires using flint..

The staff at Nature Ed contacted me this week to say how impressed with our children they had been – they reported that they were all engaged with the activities and represented our school in a responsible way. Well done Classes 1 and 5!
Our iPad adventure continues to gain momentum and the children’s iPad’s have finally arrived! The impact they have had already is clear to see. Children have been completing independent research, they have used the video function to make their own movies and have used a tool that allows them to speak their ideas, which are then converted into text. For those pupils who find writing difficult, it has given them a real boost. We have also used a workflow app called Showbie and you can see pictures of our youngest pupils in Class 4, using the iPads to complete their phonics work, mark it themselves and then send their work to Mrs Makin using Showbie! Amazing progress in just one week. Well done Class 4.
We will be bringing you more details of our progress with the iPads over the coming weeks so watch this space.
That’s all for this week – I hope you all have a great weekend. I should have been watching my son jump out of a plane from 10,000 feet but it’s been cancelled due to the storms and strong winds, so I’m off to Aldershot to watch the football!
See you all on Monday.
Miss Thomason
Head of School
