Well, it’s been a long and busy week at Spring Brook Primary as we’ve been impacted again by adults having to self-isolate whilst test results come through.  This has affected all but two classes and one of the local authority buses too, but the children have coped with the changes remarkably well.  Thank you to our families who have, as ever, been so understanding and supportive – it really is very much appreciated.

We started the week by bringing the Christmas spirit into school and the teachers and children were busily decorating classrooms and doors.  The tree is up, the lights are on, Christmas songs are playing in the office and we WILL have a nice end to 2020!!

We also welcomed Jon Large into school who has worked with other schools within our group.  Marley had asked whether we could get some outdoor seating for the Y6s to use at playtimes.  Well, we thought this was a great idea but instead of just buying something, decided to make this a real-life learning experience and asked Jon to help Marley build something.  He absolutely loved it and I must say a huge thank you to Jon who was fantastic.  Owen also joined in and anybody who wanted to have a look during the day was also welcomed into the community room.  The number of tools there was eye-popping and included a variety of saws, clamps, vices, circular saws and many more.  Jon commended our boys saying he couldn’t believe that they sustained their concentration all day.  He is going to be coming again after Christmas so that the boys can move the bench to its final place and secure it to the ground.  Well done Marley and Owen.

A parcel arrived in Class 3 on Tuesday containing a pesky elf who has been sent from Santa to watch over them until Christmas.  He brought some nice treats for the children too.

I was lucky enough to spend Friday with Class 3 who I must say looked after me instead I think!  Eric can be seen here preparing breakfast for the class..

..Harley was like my Teaching Assistant and is sat here helping Lucy with her reading – he was very good!  I think he may be after a job here in a few years 🙂

Class 4 have been decorating the tree..

..opening Advent calendars..

..making biscuits (and eating them!)..

..creating some lovely Christmas crafts using their own handprints and having fun playing games to describe nouns..

Finally onto Class 5 who have been busy learning about the seasons this week.  Sebastian has excelled in his writing, putting lots of details into it and remembering key facts too.

They have used 2Paint to create pictures of the different seasons in their computing lessons..

..and have made some sparkly snowflakes..

..and spiky Hedgehogs..

The highlight of the week though was Rylan at swimming who finally found the confidence to leave the steps and venture into the middle of the pool!  Well done Rylan, we are very proud of you – we knew you could do it 🙂

Next week, don’t forget that it’s Christmas Jumper Day and our Christmas Dinner on Friday 11th December.

See you all soon,

Miss Thomason
