As we approach our last week of the school year, I have to say it’s been like no other, for good and bad reasons. It has been tough on a personal level for everyone but what has amazed me has been the resilience of our pupils. They have, by and large, taken the whole thing in their stride. Hopefully 2021 will bring us better times, but this will be dependent on all of us continuing to follow safety guidance over the holidays – the last thing we want is to go straight back into lockdown as we hit January!

I’ve shared lots on the Facebook page this week so just a few extras for you here.

Class 1 were pleased to have their teachers back fit and well and have had a busy week. They have learned how to play volleyball with Mr Hopkins..

.. and demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills in Commando Joe sessions when they had to find a way to transport goods over a “wide ravine” with only selected equipment. Mrs Fisher was very impressed with how they all worked together.

In topic lessons, they have started to find out about the armour that Knights wore to protect them in battle and Tyreece started by making a quick model..

They also had what could have been the wettest trip ever to Grandpa Green’s, although as you can see, it didn’t stop them from eating ice-cream!

Class 4 have been doing some great learning in Maths, using the 100 squares to help with their addition..

They have also been helping each other with their phonics..

They have welcomed a new pupil, Joshua, who has made a great start and they showed him what a good teamwork was in their lesson with Matthew from @cityinthecommunity

In RSHE, they were talking about friendships and the qualities of a good friend. They took turns to write something nice about the other members of their class which they can all read over the coming days.

They also had a trip over to Diggle for some fresh air, the chance to run around, splash in the mud, feed the ducks and have the obligatory ice-cream and/or hot chocolate!

One of the highlights of the week for me, was having the opportunity to go swimming with the children on Thursday. I couldn’t believe how much they had all come on from last time I went. The ones who were non-swimmers then were now in the deep end swimming half a length – wow!!! I took some photos to show you all how they are doing..

We also had our wonderful Christmas Dinner on Friday and it was really lovely. A huge thank you to Lisa and the team from @absolutecatering – it really was delicious.

Also, a thank you to Mrs Arnold, our Mr Arnold’s mum, who has very kindly made some Christmas treat bags for each of the children. How very kind and thoughtful – thank you so much.

I am also delighted to share our Autumn newsletter with you here, hot off the press.

If I don’t see you next week, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we will see you all back in school on 4th January.
